The Challenge

Located in the mountains of Revelstoke, a town of 8,000, SCL still competes for projects across B.C. with big firms based in the city that have much larger marketing budgets. SCL received B.C.’s Launch Online grant and was looking for a firm to make the most of their funding. Their varied needs included bringing in more traffic, increasing search rankings, creating an online booking system, exploring CRM options, and implementing 2FA security in their Microsoft ecosystem.

Course of Action

After performing a marketing and SEO audit, we started by resolving technical issues of the website and some major mobile responsiveness issues.

Then we restructured the site and made several SEO optimizations that resulted in dramatic ranking position improvements for competitive keywords, including:

Improved interlinking
Removed orphan pages
Optimized call-to-actions
Improved mobile UX
Restructured case studies to make them more easily accessible

SEO highlights after seven months of engagement with Big Cedar:

Rankings up 84 positions to #10 for “environmental consulting firm”
Rankings up 55 positions to #13 for “environmental consultants Vancouver”

Traffic increased 231% over the same time and 7 target keywords now rank in the top 15, with 12 in the top 30 including broad keywords like “project management services”.

In addition, we made several technology improvements including:

Adding an automated booking system tied to their Outlook calendar with email notifications.
Integrating a system to allow leads from the contact form and booking to upload files.
Implemented Two-Factor Authentication for enhanced security for Microsoft Outlook and Sharepoint.
Created a customer feedback form.

These digital upgrades saved them time, increased conversion and retention. As the project neared its end, we helped SCL complete all remaining grant requirements and guided them through the final steps to allow them to receive their funding quickly.
